Forks over Knives quick overview

My journey to a vegan lifestyle began watching Food Inc. This was not a recommendation by anyone. It wasn’t something we’d seen advertised. No, we stumbled across Food Inc purely by chance as the result of a bit of “remote surfing”. It has changed my life. Forks Over Knives was another documentary that was on my list of things to watch for ages. I wanted to learn more on the health and nutrition aspect of veganism specifically, and I’d heard Forks Over Knives was a good option. Although the movie is rather US focused, with a lot of reference to the USDA etc, many of the health conclusions reached are based on studies of people outside of the US.

But there are a lot of documentaries out there, and it can sometimes feel a little overwhelming when you’ve got a ton of other things on your “to do” list!

With this simple 1-page overview our aim is to draw out a few interesting facts as well as a Forks Over Knives quick overview. Hopefully this allows you to digest the key takeaways without beating yourself up about making enough time to watch the whole thing!

Hands down, I think my favourite moment in the whole movie was a really fit fire-fighter and retired triathlete climbing up the poll at the fire station chanting “Real Men Eat Plants, Real Men Eat Plants” over and over again. Boy did he climb that poll fast!

We’ve been writing a lot about food recently, and while the world of vegan cuisine continues to amaze and inspire me, I wanted to refocus on a few of the facts surrounding our modern-day diets and the price we’re paying for it.

For surely there’s nothing more inspiring than clarity through knowledge, followed by change and purpose? We can make ourselves better with every plate of food we make!
