We’ve ventured far afield to hunt down good vegan and vegetarian food…but this time it was sitting right under our noses. The vegan options at Mama Ghanoushe vegetarian café were such an amazing local find for us. Something tells me this will soon become our regular spot!

Vegan Options at Mama Ghanoushe

On a chilly autumn day we stumbled upon Mama Ghanoushe’s details while searching the internet (thank you Google!) and thought what a great way to blast a rainbow of health into an otherwise grey and wet day.

After a short drive, we were wondering down the quaint Hassocks (West Sussex) high street and into the welcoming front door of Mama Ghanoushe. Your first impression, even from the street, is one of exploding life. There is colour and art everywhere you look and lots of thoughtful and unique details. Some of these details took my attention for so long, I didn’t even focus on the menu, which I normally pounce on straight away like our dog chasing leaves in the wind.

Vegan options at Mama Ghanoushe – Drinks

One of the things I really like about Mama Ghanoushe is it has a licence. So even though it’s a café it serves a few vegan beers and wines and even a cocktail or two. On the day we went we didn’t try anything (boo!) but something tells me it won’t be too long before we’re back to sample their evening menu and drinks….

We ordered a soy cappachino and a Green Goddess smoothie, which arrived with a stunning display of fresh sprouts and seed. That won my heart, as I do this at home sometimes much to amused looks from my husband.

Vegan options at Mama Ghanoushe – Food

I went for the Cumin Wrap with hummus, avocado and tofu. I was a bit dubious about a cumin-flavoured wrap but took the plunge anyway. It was fantastic!

The meal itself looked like a work of art when it arrived. The Cumin Wrap was laid slightly open, with fresh, layered ingredients peeping out. The raw salad was made of a variety of spiralised vegetables, with kale and carrot and a tangy dressing. It was also topped with seeds, fresh sprouts and some sweet pomegranate seeds. Did you know the edible seeds are called “arils” and they have many health benefits? I could tell you it looked too good to eat, and it did. But who am I kidding, I’d eat a great vegan meal even if it looked like a Da Vinci!
